Hello.
In the months to come, my partner and I will be seeking a home in the Oakland Area. My job is in Oakland, his is near the San Carlos Caltrain station. He is game for a longer commute with minimal transfers. Below I've noted what it seems our options are. If anyone has thoughts or experience related to this, we'd love to hear about it :)
--the Dublin/Pleasanton Bart goes all the way to Millbrae, then he easily gets the Caltrain at Millbrae. This looks like the least transfers and biggest no-brainer solution. (we'd live near the Lake Merritt BART... I guesss he could do one more BART transfer, if we lived near Rockridge or something)
--It looks like Oakland buses do go to SF, but not necessarily near, say, the 4th and King Caltrain station... (help?)
--It doesnt look like the Amtrak train thing is particularly helpful to our cause, but maybe someone knows something I dont?

One of us working in Redwood City, the other in Oakland.... help?
Wed, March 21, 2007 - 7:35 AMHi Cor, it's me Cor following up on your original post. I dont think that we will be able to live in Oakland, it is just too damn far a commute for him. Hence here is a new take on this post. Perhaps someone will reply this time :)
I wonder if folks here could share any expertise on doing this commute with both of us having equal commute times without either of us spending significantly more than 2 hours commuting. Also any thoughts on living where we can easily access the BART and, via a BART transfer perhaps, the Caltrain.
Heres the list of areas that sound somewhat intriguing and logistically OK (we can afford up about 2000). We want to feel pretty safe and can do public transportation to more interesting realms if need be.
-4th and King caltrain - > South Beach (although I guess I dont know how I'd get to the BART)
-22nd Avenue Caltrain -> Dogpatch/Potrero Hill... again, I guess I don't know how I'd get to the BART
-near Mission Dolores Park (he takes the BART to Millbrae....)
-Glen Park (BART to Millbrae)
-Sunset or Cole Valley (N Judah goes to BART lines and the 4th and King Caltrain)
Thanks :)
